places in new york city that take me back to japan on the upper east side head to ku ramen they serve up japanese food in a space that is similar to that of a real ramen bar in japan you can face the chef traditionally or you could sit on the other side with views of new york city the tonkotsu shoyu ramen has pork broth simmered for 11 hours topped with some juicy kakuni as well as some scallions garlic paste marinated eggs sesame kikurage mushroom black garlic oil and naruto next up their spicy tantanmen it sits under some spicy peanut sauce and chili oil and it's a cold noodle those are my favorite japanese dishes for the summer it also had bits of spicy pulled pork and arugula their hand roll set as a shining moment on its own we had the spicy tuna eel and cucumber and salmon avocado also can i just comment that the way they serve the wasabi isn't a necessary chunk either it's just enough for what you need because in true japanese presentation details like this matter nikuman is one of my favorite japanese comfort foods and the way they serve this up with the kakuni inside chef's kiss truly they also have a wide selection of japanese including this umeshu in a jar and this one cup. I used to drink this all the time in Japan.
