ZOETROPE What to do: Wiggle your finger very quickly back and forth over the sculpture. Notice how many fingers seem to appear on your smartphone's flashlight. It's actually only one finger shining onto the sculpture that see's that light. What's going on? The illusion of movement is formed by rapidly spinning a strobe light under a sculpture with specific geometry. The sculpture to be flashed briefly every 13.5°. This is the sculpture rotation rate. Since the sculpture is 360°, it is the same angle every 27.5°.
