This weekend, I went to Wolf Trap, my favorite venue in the DMV to see a concert, and I saw the legendary divas Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle. And it was refreshing to hear some true singers instead of these rappers from the Tide Potty generation who can't decide if they want to rap, sing, or whine on a track after popping four Xannies. Miss Gladys Knight started the concert off. Her vocals were on point. She sounded the same as her record. And yes, your boy does know Ms. Gladys Knight's songs and not just Midnight Train in Georgia. And I'll prove it. They tell me, Gladys, you know you love too hard. But I tell them, not nearly hard enough. Y'all ain't know your boy could hold a note or two. I was in the children's choir at church. But now I'm going to let Gladys sing it a little bit for you. Next, it was time for Miss Patti LaBelle. And she brought the energy. She danced. She kicked off her shoes. She interacted with the crowd. She signed a woman's album mid-show. If you wanted to give her a gift during the show, Patti was going to take that shit. And before Destiny's Child ever said, say my name, Miss LaBelle said it first. Patti! Patti! Patti! Patti! LaBelle was always played in my house growing up by my mom, whether she was cleaning the house or just vibing out with the MGD. Overall, it was a great show. These iconic women both just turned 80 years young. And if you haven't seen a concert at Wolf Trap, definitely do, because it's BYOB. And you can bring your own food too. Like and follow your boy for more.
