Have you been on Lucky Catch Cruises in Portland yet? I've never been lobstering before, but I've always wanted to try it, so I signed up when we went to go visit Portland. We met at the dock and boarded this cute boat. As we made our way out, Captain Brian gave us a little history lesson on what it's like to be a lobsterman or lobster woman in Maine, various fishing laws and licensing. We also got to see Bug Light and Fort Gorgeous along the way. Once we got closer to the lobster traps, we got ready by putting on these bright orange aprons. to help set the bait for the traps we were about to pull up i learned that each person has their own unique designed buoy which is how you know which trap is yours some of the traps that we pulled only had these tiny crabs that we just tossed back in i was warned that they will draw blood if they pinch you so i had to toss them in very quickly i kind of felt bad for the crabs the seagulls were trying hard to catch an easy meal some of the traps did have lobsters in them which was so exciting we learned about what size they need to be in order to keep them how to distinguish between females and males, how to mark a lobster if they're an egg producing female and more. I got to toss one of the little lobsters back in. Then we got to reset the traps for the next catch. I would definitely recommend booking Lucky Catch Cruises. This was so much fun and super informative.
