The City of Pleasant Living also has pleasant dining. Welcome back Chef Michael Altman and his new restaurant in the heart of South Miami, Kitchen 57. It was gather hour when we arrived, so we started with that menu and their popular trio dip. A must-have caramelized onion, homemade hummus, and smoked baba ganoush dip on a perfect vessel of hand-cut root chips. I paired it with a trendy espresso martini made with Brugal rum. We also had their most popular zucchini fries, and these are a must. He paired it with an invented Manhattan made with beef wash Jack Daniels. Then another favorite, fried goat cheese fritters with candied bacon and balsamic. So decadent. Next up, chef sent out a new dish, chilled yuzu shrimp. This followed by crispy Brussels sprouts, a fan favorite. Their mojo short rib tacos were tasty and fun, paired with a hibiscus margarita with herradura tequila and silencio mezcal. For entrees, I had the miso salmon with green papaya salad, which was tasty, bright, and light. He went for the hearty half rack of ribs, hand-cut fries, and slaw. We finished with their fan favorite Mintwich, mint chocolate chip ice cream sandwich between two homemade cookies, and their bread pudding with vanilla bourbon cream anglaise.
