I checked out Elaichi Jai, which just opened up on Fraser, and I started strong with their namesake, the Elaichi Jai. Fragrant, milky, full of cardamom, just sweet enough, and it was honestly healing. The banh muska was a soft, buttery bread filled with jewels of sweetness, and I dipped it in the jai as if I knew what I was doing, but I ended up dribbling down my chin. Zero shame. Then came the varapau, a spiced potato fritter in a banh, Mumbai style. Quick dessert break for some shrikan and amrakan, which are thick, creamy yogurts, one classic, one mango, both dreamy. The misalpah was next. It was my first time trying it. It was a spicy lentil curry topped with crunchy save, onion, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. Messy, fiery, addictive. Of course, I had to balance it all out with some South Indian filter coffee. It was strong, foamy, perfect, and served piping hot. I struggled with the straw for a solid 10 seconds, but I made it. It was totally worth the fight for this puneri lassi. sweet, thick, and filled with malai. You've got to check out Eleichi Chai on Fraser.
