What has to be one of the most local holidays I have ever come across, Separation Day, celebrated on June 15th in Newcastle, Delaware, and no place else, commemorates when Delaware separated itself from Pennsylvania to become its own state in 1776. This was just weeks before July 4th, 1776, when the then-13 colonies separated from Britain. This is by Newcastle, for Newcastle, about Newcastle, with Newcastle on its mind. Nobody else in Delaware knows this holiday exists. I asked around. It is just Newcastle.
