Video Transcript

This colonial looking garden was actually created in nineteen fifty five. Known as the Bishop's Garden, its clipped hedges and geometric paths were designed to recall the Ursuline sister's French heritage. And the sisters did maintain a garden on these grounds in the seventeen hundreds But theirs was practical supplying medicinal herbs and testing which French plants could survive the New Orleans climate. And when the gardens bronze bell finally appears, it adds another date to the story. The bell was cast in eighteen twenty nine. What appears to be one preserved colonial courtyard is really centuries of history, arranged in layers.
