The Mammoth Site in Hot Springs

The Mammoth Site is an active paleontological dig located along US-18 in Hot Springs, South Dakota. Opened to the public in 2001, it covers 25,000 square feet where over 61 mammoths have been discovered, making it one of the largest concentrations of mammoth remains in the world. Visitors can explore a working dig site and learn from expert guides while also interacting with fossil exhibits. The site features a glassed-in area where you can view scientists at work.
